Fuel efficiency coaching is a working concept that enables companies/organisations to gain long-term benefits from Eco driving training. The concept is based on a three-pronged approach: monitoring, motivation and communication. The challenge lies in modifying driver driving patterns over time, the solution is fuel efficiency coaching.

There are 85 qualified fuel efficiency coaches in Sweden who form the Sparcoach ek förening (Swedish Association of Fuel Efficiency Coaches). Fuel efficiency coaches help companies develop procedures for monitoring fuel consumption and to motivate and encourage drivers to adopt and maintain an eco driving approach behind the wheel. Fuel efficiency coaches provide support and advice to prevent drivers regressing to their former ingrained patterns of driving and to help them continue to further improve their technique.

The Association of Fuel Efficiency Coaches organises fuel efficiency coach training, quality assures and further develops the concept and arranges experience exchanges, skills development and marketing for its members. We are based in Luleå and have members throughout Sweden. We work closely with the Swedish Road Administration, STR, (Swedish National Association of Driving Schools) and their Eco driving training concept and TYA, the Vocational Training and Working Environment Council (Transport Trades). The Association is currently seeking closer links with companies that provide technical aids for fuel monitoring. We are also working with the Swedish Road Administration and others on a project to extend fuel efficiency coach expertise even further. The aim is to help companies meet the growing demands and requirements related to road safety, the environment and work environment.

We have a broad mix of member companies: consultants within various specialist areas, Eco driving trainers, quality, environment and fleet managers at hauliers and local authority officials. All trained fuel efficiency coaches.
