Association of Fuel Efficiency Coaches

The Association of Fuel Efficiency Coaches was founded in February 2005 to help the development of the fuel efficiency coaching service. The Association is a federation of fuel efficiency coaches that acts as a service coordinator for its members. There are currently 85 member coaches and 75 member companies. These member companies are mainly consulting companies, hauliers, organisations and training companies within eco driving. Applications from all suitably qualified individuals and companies are invited to undertake fuel efficiency coach training and join the association.

The Association is based in Luleå and has members throughout Sweden. We offer fuel efficiency coach training, quality assure and further develop the concept and organise exchanges of experiences, skills development and marketing of members. Many executive members of the association take an active role in association work in various ways alongside project managers employed by the Association. The Association board is elected at the AGM that is normally held every September.

The Association is competition neutral from a Swedish Road Administration and other public authority perspective and everyone in the transport sector who is working to achieve long-term fuel savings and associated reduced carbon footprint is welcome to become members.

The Association does not have a central profit-driving motive. Turnover should simply cover necessary coordination and development costs. The Association does, however, promote the financial interests of its members by supporting and helping them in the work they do, either themselves or in partnership with an fuel efficiency coach, and via the marketing services done through the Association. The Association is largely funded through external financing. This currently comes from the Swedish Road Administration, STR, (Swedish National Association of Driving Schools) and their Eco driving training concept and TYA, the Vocational Training and Working Environment Council (Transport Trades). The Association is continuously seeking to attract additional partners.

What we do
The Association supports and helps its members in the work they do, either themselves or in partnership with a fuel efficiency coach. The Association aims to promote reduced environmental impact through the long-term advantages of eco driving. The Association also strives to be a driving force in developing new methods of reducing environment impact.

The Association provides information on and communicates the benefits of fuel efficiency coaching in Sweden and seeks to persuade organisations to actively commit to active long-term eco driving. The Association emphasises the importance of monitoring, communication and motivation in association with eco driving training and also offers support with this.

The Association regulations require it to:
• develop the fuel efficiency coaching concept with regard to structure and implementation
• develop new working methods to reduce environment impact.
• quality assure fuel efficiency coaching services
• promote cooperation between eco driving instructors and fuel efficiency coaches
• market fuel efficiency coaching and communicate its benefits
• coordinate and support Association members
• promote cooperation and experience exchanges between members
• promote training and further training within this area
• recruit new members where required
• provide advice on eco driving matters and fuel efficiency coaching and
coordinate with other interest groups in this area and monitor developments within the infrastructure area.
